NetGalley Curated Results

Back at the beginning of March, we set out to update some of the public statistics we could share with authors who were hoping to learn if NetGalley might be a good fit for their books. Thanks to volunteers from the 20booksto50k group on Facebook, we now have information to share!

Buckle in for a fairly long post! Last week we had a look at the results for our READ NOW titles, and this week we’re looking at the standalone titles that we curated the requests for, choosing which reviewers to approve.

To view a book on NetGalley, click on the cover. Note: These books are no longer active in NetGalley’s catalog. The information below will show you each book’s cover and blurb, how many people clicked through to learn more about the book/viewed the listing, how many requests the book got and how the cover was rated by NetGalley’s members.

A Betrayal of Time is a story about Vivienne and Ray, who loved each other even before they knew what love was. They belonged together. They knew it, and everyone who knew them knew it.

But time didn’t. Or maybe time just didn’t care.

It ripped them apart. Vivienne was left alone, without the one thing—the one person—she needed. Worse, she was the sole survivor of an unexplained cosmic event that folded time, transporting her 20 years into the future, when she was supposed to be long dead along with everyone else the event claimed. She didn’t know anything about time, except that it was her great betrayer. Still, no one else knew how to reunite her with Ray or with 1959. It was up to her to decipher the quandary no one had been able to resolve before: to bring predictability to the time space continuum, the one thing that could not be more unpredictable.

Meet Raven Kane: an eccentric, hexing-and-texting witch with a special talent for attracting trouble.

No one appreciates the irony of her situation more than Raven Kane: she’s a burnt-out witch. Raven is a hip, hexing-and-texting sorceress – or at least, she used to be. Now her ancient timber house is falling down around her, and nothing would make her cantankerous neighbour happier than seeing Raven and her messy menagerie out on the street. To add to her stress, the reckless Wicked Witches are causing mischief and it’s her job to rein them in.

Worst of all is that her magic seems to be fading. Just as everything seems to be too much to handle, there’s a knock on the (splintering) door. A not-unattractive man appears in her life: not to save her, as a fairytale would have you believe, but to arrest her for the murder of one of her clients. It wouldn’t be that bad for Raven, except that she knows she’s guilty.

What pushes a community to rise up and say enough is enough?

For the one-stoplight city of Grantsville, Utah, the prospect of a water-hogging state prison relocating into town galvanizes its residents into action. Former columnist Jewel Allen can’t opine this threat away. This is the real deal.

Armed only with her media know-how, Jewel helps her neighbors wage a creative grassroots campaign of horseback protests, town halls, food truck rallies, and news appearances – anything to rebuff the prison. But with their county’s reputation of accepting unwanted industries, they face an uphill battle. Against other citizens who say it’s pointless to fight. Against powerful legislators backed by the Speaker of the House. And against the state’s million-dollar public relations showdown before the legislature casts its irrevocable vote.

Timely in its subject and universal in its lessons, Soapbox is an inspiring case study of how regular citizens can develop and magnify their voices to mobilize change. Includes bonus sections: “How to run a winning grassroots campaign” and “A guide to political campaigning.”
